Frequently Asked Questions
What is C.o.R.’s cancellation or refund policy?
The initial student/participant deposit is non-refundable.
(Refunds may be available at the discretion of CoR)
Cancellations made prior to 45 days from departure will be refunded the total amount paid minus the initial deposit.
Cancellations made within 45 days of the departure date will be subject to review. Documentation should accompany cancellations (for example: doctor excuse, documentation of family emergency, etc.) whenever appropriate.
Refunds within 45 days of the departure date will not be made until after the completion of the trip and after all expenses have been deducted (within 45 days).
***There will be no refund for “No Shows” on the date of the trip unless there are extenuating circumstances, and documentation must be provided. If documentation is provided, then refund will fall into the “Refund within 45 days” category.
In the event of Covid related cancellations or government restrictions the Corps of Rediscovery will refund 100% of unspent money to the customer within 45 days. Some non-refundable deposits may be forfeited including, but not limited to hotel deposit, bus deposit and some reservations/meals.
In 2019 some bus companies and hotels refunded all deposits when the government shut down. Covid restrictions are unexpected and will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
The Corps of Rediscovery strives to be a positive business within our community and is committed to being a student-first business. Every reasonable attempt will be made to refund money if the situation arises.
Can my child order food at the hotel?
No one should order any outside food without permission from the trip personnel.
Absolutely no food is to be delivered to the hotel without adult accompaniment. Any delivery approved by trip personnel will be made in the hotel lobby.
Should I send extra money with your child? How Much?
Absolutely! Souvenirs and snacks are always a must when traveling, but the question of how much can be answered with “how much money do you plan to lose?” Your child will spend whatever you send. The “How Much” answer is up to the parent’s discretion.
This trip is “All-Inclusive” which means the Corps of Rediscovery will pay for all necessary expenses including tips for our bus driver. Meals are covered, but opportunities for Shake Shack, Starbucks, or Dunkin Donuts are plentiful throughout the trip!
Can I participate in “paid experiences” at the museums?
Some museums have flight simulators, butterfly experiences, etc. Those experiences cost a relatively small fee. We allow students to participate in these opportunities, but encourage the student to be conscious of how much money they are spending.
What if my child does something illegal?
We will not handle illegal activities ourselves. Any behavior that breaks the law will be dealt with by local authorities. Tobacco or alcohol use is strictly prohibited. Anyone underage using either will be dealt with by Washington D.C. police.
How are roommates decided?
To afford rooms we have to base the trip off 4 persons to a room. This includes chaperones. An adult WILL NOT be staying in the room with your child. The perfect scenario is your child will talk amongst friends and arrange the roommate situation. Students without a room will be contacted and placed where available.
